A Word on Quality
Cheap paper shredders are simply false economy. Paper shredder longevity relies on strength of motor and quality of gears. Plastic gears strip easily so look for a paper shredder with strong metal gears and a strong motor capacity to suit the volumes of paper you will be shredding.

Strip Cut paper shredders
Particles are shred into long spaghetti strips. Strip cut shredding is not as secure and does not compact as tightly as cross cut. Strip cut particles can be retrieved and, contrary to popular belief, painstakingly restored.

Cross Cut paper shredders
Paper is cut on the diagonal providing better security than strip cut particles. The waste is also compacted more tightly so emptying the waste bin is less frequent.
